Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based model that uses acceptance of one’s thoughts in combination with powerful mindfulness tools, as well as commitment and behavior-change strategies to increase psychological flexibility. ACT was developed in 1982 by Steven Hayes and has become one of the most widely used methods of treatment for everything from anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and addiction. In this episode Tony Overbay gives an overview of ACT and goes in depth on the concept of diffusion, and provides tools for how to immediately find some relief from the stressors in everyday life.
